Cardinal Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Metallurgist to enhance metallurgical processes in foundry operations, focusing on large-scale castings used on US Navy ships and submarines. The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of metallurgical principles, materials science, and hands-on expertise in foundry environments to drive innovation and ensure product quality. Candidates will be based out of the Washington Navy Yard with part-time telework. Some travel will be required in execution of assigned duties. Must be a US Citizen and currently possess a DoD SECRET security clearance. Key Responsibilities Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot metallurgical processes used to produce large-scale castings. Conduct root cause analyses for casting defects and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet customer specifications and improve efficiency. Lead material testing and validation, including mechanical, microstructural, and chemical analyses. Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance casting quality and reduce costs. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO) and safety regulations. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. Experience: 3–10 years in metallurgical roles, with significant experience in foundry operations and large castings. Expertise in casting techniques Proficient in metallurgical analysis tools (e.g., SEM, spectrometry) and modeling software (e.g., MAGMASOFT, ProCAST). Strong problem-solving and project management skills. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Salary commensurate with years and applicability of experience ranging from $95 – $170K.
